Thank you
One year of Landfall
The draft title for this Post was going to be “When I have Something, You’ll Know”
A nod to the feeling of wanting to be active, here
while also somehow finding a way
to hibernate, alone
with a cup of tea.
Bunny resting paws on my feet.
They say it’s hard to hibernate
when you’re moving.
Across town, the drive
to write
and Post something
faded away.
Maybe, for now
I had said
all I needed to say.
Thank you for being here for the beginning of my writing journey!
When I started this Substack a year ago, I had no plans and no idea what it would mean to me. My only goal was to write and share what felt right, and break through the imposter stories about “Becoming a Writer.”
You helped me realize that I can share my writing, and even have people offer to pay for it. Thank you to my first Paid Subscriber, Isabel. It meant much more than you know to have people I’ve never met support me in this way. Thanks to Franco, Caroline, and Silvio for the inspiration and thematic synchronicities - sometimes it felt like we were writing to the same secret prompt and interpreting it in our own ways. And thanks to all the friends and family who subscribed, I’m sure you’ve never heard this much from me, and now is a good time for a break!
After some end-of-year reflection, I realized that Landfall (the project) is complete. In this form, I don’t have anything to add to what I’ve shared here. If I look back, it tells a story of finding my voice - meandering through mundane moments and unfolding what’s inside. The entire thing was based in rhythm, and so - when that rhythm fades, or feels like it’s being forced, it’s time to stop. This is a good thing.
It’s convenient that it lined up exactly with the 1-year anniversary, but I didn’t have any end-date or plan in mind. The only thing guiding me is an intuition that it’s time to shift things up and start some new projects that work in different ways. So, today, I turned off Paid Subscriptions (refunding any outstanding time to Paid Subscribers) and removed any Pay Walls from all 65 Posts. I’d like to keep this up and published for free as a complete project for anyone interested.
Thank you again for the gestures of support and kindness in the comments. I plan to still be here on Substack to enjoy the many communities I’ve subscribed to that are sharing wonderful writing, and will let you know if any future projects take shape.
Thanks for reading!
