Rest/rot Consciousness

If you've heard of "couch/bed rot" and like Shel Silverstein, this may be for you

If we call resting rotting
in the couch or the bed
then let’s re-brand working
to flailing, toiling
or lashing out instead

you know
dizzy, wild swings on quarterly targets
blindfolded, playin’ musical chairs
let’s spin around
until we all fall down
then lay off around
(napkin head-counting)
15%, here or there

secret meetings
under rainbow parachutes, chanting
you’re one of us, now
and that’s a good question
but, let’s put a pin in the unsaid

I wonder, who benefits
when rest is decay
reduced, inert bodies
if they had their way, we’d be always
moving
striving, making, shooting
running on all fours
brain chip, new high scores
backflipping, productivity parkour

oh, what's that you say…
there’s no time in the day?
but, hey
where’s your sense of urgency?
you’d rather sit and rot; don’t want to play?

If it’s ok to work, it’s ok to rest. Really.
