I Hope You Find A Better Job Soon

This photo is from one of my postal routes today. As I ride by, the voices play in my head.

The woman from two days ago, in passing, as I’m delivering her mail:

“I bet you had a different career, before.
Well, I hope you find a better job soon”

Delivered with passing care, and a gentle firmness. But holding something sharp, too. An accusation, twisting inside: that postal work is somehow lower than what I deserve, or should be doing with my time.

I flashback to the man months ago - my first week on the job:

“What else are you doing? Studying?
You can’t waste your life doing (furtive flinging gestures) - this.
The World needs you to use your gifts”

“I like my job” I reply, kindly. To both of them. As I continue delivering their mail.

I may not be saving the world, but I am still using my gifts: appreciating where I am, for now.
